Anyone who is looking to replace his hot water tank may want to ask himself whether he wants to continue using the type of unit he currently owns or if he wants to go tankless. The tankless water heater is emerging on the scene but some homeowners are not quite sure whether or not they should take the plunge. Sometimes it is hard to let go of a system that works relatively well like the traditional water tank.
The first thing to consider is the cost. The tankless version is a little more costly than a regular water tank unit. However, they might be worth the little extra cash because they can save money on fueling bills. The constant energy that is put into heating the traditional water tank is no longer necessary in the tank-free heating unit. The cost of running the innovative new product is less expensive over time.
Many homeowners still lean towards using the conventional water tank because the up-front costs are simply easier to gather. Another drawback of the tank-free unit is that it requires venting. You have to have a flue put into your home that can accommodate the new unit. The tankless unit requires a larger flue than the traditional heating system, so some rearranging needs to be made. This costs money as well.
The biggest draw for the tankless water heater is the simple fact that the unit does not have to constantly heat its contents. There are no contents. The on-demand heating system is superior in that the stream is heated very quickly and moved through the pipes in seconds. The traditional water tank has to keep a store of hot water at all times. When the water tank empties there is no hot water left. Just about everyone has experienced the surprise cold shower at one time or another.
Even though the convenient new system is appealing many people still want to use the traditional water tank for their homes. These units work wonderfully and they have stood the test of time. Aside from the occasional cold shower, there are few complaints when it comes to this fundamental system.
You can also choose to buy a water tank that is big enough to suit your needs. A family of four will require a large unit while a single person may want to look into finding something relatively small. This will prevent too many incidents of running out of hot water.
