Speeding Tickets

So you're cruising down the highway in your Porsche 911 Turbo. You've got the sun roof open and the wind in your hair. You're stoked that it's Friday and the weekend lies ahead. All is perfect. But, then it happens. You hear this annoying sound struggling to drown out your CD player. You shoot a quick glance in your rearview mirror, and your perfectly content face turns to a saggy frown. We all know what that means. You're being pulled over. Not those annoying red and blue lights again. Maybe you switch lanes and hope he goes away, but it turns out he's truly pursuing you. Ah, those wonderful speeding tickets. You were only going 76 in a 65. Or maybe you were just vying to keep up with the flow of traffic. Now, whatever you do, don't say "thank you" after he passes you the ticket.

If there's only one certainty in life, it's this; we all hate speeding tickets. I don't care who you are or how wealthy you are, no one wants lousy speeding tickets. I can recall the first time I received one. I was 19 years old, cruising home from college in my nifty little Mazda Miata. Those are fun cars by the way. Unfortunately cops are always looking out for sports cars. Red and black seem to get it the worst. So I was pulled over and dreading the inevitable speeding ticket. Regardless of how much I hoped, I still got stuck with it. Now what to do? Well, after conversing with my older brother about speeding tickets, I decided to show up in court and plead it out. Finally my court date arrived. I must admit that I was really nervous. Fortunately the judge turned out to be rather benign. I pleaded with her and she said it will not go on my record. I ended up paying a ticket fee and court costs, but that was the end of it. I was glad I showed up in court as opposed to simply sending in a payment. When it comes to speeding tickets, you plainly and simply don't want them. They cause your insurance to sky-rocket. That's not good for the old bank account.

How many speeding tickets have you acquired? Hopefully not many. Regardless, you should try and have your ticket resolved as best you can. If you can avoid it going on your record, you're doing well. Of course the best route is to not get speeding tickets by sticking with the posted speed limit. However, if you do receive a ticket and you feel as though it was wrongly issued, I recommend pleading it out. Make the officer prove it was you speeding past his radar gun.
