Speaker Stands
Most teenagers of today would have trouble believing that at one point in time there weren’t any audio speakers to be found. After the invention of the home speaker people soon began to realize that they needed a place to put the speakers. But a simple stand wouldn’t suffice. Therefore, many prolific speaker stands were designed, not only to accommodate speakers, not only to look stylish but also to serve a handy purpose.
What types are available today? There are some for use on stages that are created with versatility in mind. These speaker stands can have a reversible shaft, with speaker cabinet mounts; they can also come with the locking shaft pin feature to minimize the chance of the speaker slipping.
Other designs are tripod, and can be used with speakers that have a pole-mount adapter. These models vary because of the material and design. Make sure to get a heavy-duty tripod if you have a heavy speaker, with a weight capacity of at least 60 lbs. Some of these tripods are made of anodized aluminum alloy tubing. Contained in a nylon bag, these speaker stands certainly look stylish and are a joy to transport.
Other models may have a power crank-up feature, which allows the stand to be lowered or raised by one person cracking up the handle, or even using a cordless drill. Other ways of adjusting height on the speaker stands might be with a rotary dial or a push up stop point mechanism.
Some could feature a fully adjustable tilt angle for precision placement. These models are also extra secure and allow the tilt to be locked into place with reinforced legs for extra weight. There is also a tilt-back option that allows the speaker stands to be placed firmly and evenly from the floor position, even if the ground is not completely level.
Secure types have rubber no-slip end caps that keep the stand in place, even on a shiny new floor. This is a very important feature, but it’s included with practically all quality speaker stands. Protection of the speaker and preventing accidental slipping is the primary concern.
How much do they cost? Depending on the features the price can vary from $50.00 to $200.00. While colors, material and nylon bags are nice, the smartest way to shop is to determine which features on speaker stands that you really need. Are tilts, tripods and crank up devices specifically what you need for your purposes or will simple fixed speaker stands suffice?
