Respirator Safety

Approximately 5 million people wear respirators in the workplace throughout the United States. The respirators protect those wearing them from not enough good oxygen and can filter out harmful things such as dusts, fogs, smokes, mists, gases, vapors, and sprays. Respirator safety is helpful in preventing hazards that can cause cancer, lung damage, an assortment of other ailments, and even death.

Anywhere where fumes are present is an area that you need to be aware of before entering. One important job and home task that should follow respirator safety very carefully is painting. When painting, especially when using a sprayer, harmful fumes can be emitted into the air and without a respirator these harmful fumes can enter your body causing a variety of ailments. Most professional painters know this and the ones that use sprayers to paint generally use respirators. Even if it is a home job respirator safety is important when using a paint sprayer.

Many industrial jobs rely on the usage of respirators as well. Whenever something is manufactured which lets off anything from fumes to gasses, a respirator should be used to ensure that the oxygen is sufficient to breathe. When working on a job for a long period of time in which some type of chemical is released into the air, a respirator should be used. The basic premise to respirator safety is that if you don’t wear it you risk serious long-term illnesses.

When doing jobs such as exterminating and agricultural spraying, you should be schooled in how to do the job safely. With the chemicals that are sprayed it will not only touch the things being directly sprayed but much of the chemicals will enter the air that is then breathed. Therefore respirator safety is crucial in making sure the chemicals are filtered out and good air is taken in.

Possibly the most recognized job where breathing devices are utilized is firemen. The chances are more likely that injury and death will occur in a fire by smoke and chemical inhalation rather than by the fire itself. Respirator safety is mandatory for firemen to make sure they can breathe good air when trying to fight a fire.

If you are looking into purchasing one to protect yourself while tending to things like painting or gluing there are many places to buy one from a hardware store to the Internet. You would serve yourself well by researching the available types and their prices. You don’t want to spend a small fortune on a device that you won’t be using regularly. Regardless of what type you do buy, read the respirator safety literature that accompanies it so you are completely prepared when wearing it.
