Pulp Fiction Wallets
I had no idea they had made and they sell Pulp Fiction wallets. I watched that movie when it came out, used it in the classroom when it was on video (and when my class voted on it as the semester’s end party movie), and my friends and I got the soundtrack to the film and played it over and over to hear and repeat the classic lines. “Pork chops taste good, bacon taste good.” “Bring out the gimp.” and other lines were all we seemed to know how to say that summer.
Also that summer, we older girls took my brother’s adopted daughter, Michelle around on our errands and jaunts. Because little Mich looked like Uma Thurman, we called her Uma and bought her lipstick to make her look like the character Uma played—though her mom was not keen on our dying her hair. Had we hung out with the boys who looked like John Travolta (who played Vincent Vega) and Samuel Lee Jackson (who played Jules Winnfield), rather than those who looked and acted like Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer, we would have added to their costumes the Pulp Fiction wallets…well, had we known of their existence.
These Pulp Fiction wallets are mighty cool, even now, this many years after Uma did the Batman simulation and Travolta and Jackson and Willis did their thuggish but darkly funny thing…all for a mystery briefcase that glowed when they opened it. The Pulp Fiction wallets come in black, subtle red, and three tones of brown (light, sienna, and dark). They have embroidered prints that read in the famous words of Jackson’s character in Pulp Fiction: “BAD MOTHER F***ER”. They are made of 100% leather, have a double billfold section and places for identification, credit cards, and pictures, and cost as little as 24.99 for the first wallet and 12.50 for each additional wallet.
And one company sends along with their Pulp Fiction wallets, a business card with Jules’ picture on it, as well as Ezekial’s BMF speech in its entirety.
But for now, since the days of wallets and hysterical dialogue or gone, I’ll just muse on the summer of Pulp Fiction…for all of us…with it’s comeback of King of the Road and such brilliant lines as those sniped by Vegas: “It could be God stopped the bullets, he changed Coke into Pepsi, he found my f**kin' car keys. You don't judge shit like this based on merit.” Or do you?
