Pictures Of Dinosaurs
My two children are several years apart in age. They are also miles apart when it comes to things that they are interested in. My teenage daughter is interested in talking on the telephone, fashion, talking on the telephone, music, who is dating who, who just broke up, and did I mention talking on the telephone. My ten year old son is interested in anything that crawls, smells and makes funny noises. He is also interested in making my daughter’s life as miserable as possible. I was very surprised when they both came home with the same request for a class project, finding pictures of dinosaurs. Now pictures of dinosaurs seemed very common place for my son, but it seems that my daughter’s art class was concentrating on dinosaurs in art throughout history. Of course my son thought it would be cool to research pictures of dinosaurs with his sister; however she wanted no part of this. She already hated the thought of this project; she was not going to make it worse by doing research on pictures of dinosaurs with her brother.
I thought this was going to be one of the easier projects that I have helped my children research. Pictures of dinosaurs did not seem that it was going to be very difficult to accomplish. With the recent motion pictures that have been out, the interest in dinosaurs seems to have exploded. As I began to help each of my children with their project to find pictures of dinosaurs, we soon discovered that the issue was too many sources to sift through. There are pictures of dinosaurs that teachers can use for classroom presentations. There are pictures of dinosaurs in clip art that are in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colors. There are pictures of dinosaurs that include a multitude of facts ranging from fun facts for young children to deep analysis of the lives and demise of dinosaurs. Going through all the information was very time consuming with my son, because he of course found all of the information very interesting and he wanted to take it all in. On the other hand my daughter found most of the pictures of dinosaurs gross and stupid and she wanted to make a copy of the first one she found just to be done. As we went through the pictures of dinosaurs that we found in the arts area we discovered that some of the art work was outstanding. Many of the artists were able to capture the beauty and strength of the animals as well as the surroundings that they lived in. The pictures of dinosaurs were available in water colors as well as oils and some of the pictures of dinosaurs were taken of sculptures that were life size. By the end of our search and through the process of elimination both of my children were able to complete their projects. The amazing thing to me was how different each project was from the other even though they both needed to find pictures of dinosaurs.
