Personalized Gifts
Whenever the holiday or the festival season comes around, I eagerly await the opportunity to see the gifts I’ve got. Of course, I also love giving gifts, but when it comes to giving gifts, I am always confident that I have the ace up my sleeve. Which is why I am always excited to see if someone has bettered me in the art of gift giving! What is the ace up my sleeve you ask? Well, it is something that has come to be known as personalized gifts.
I firmly believe that in the past, whenever someone gave a gift, it was a personal tribute to the person receiving the gift. This is what made the gift itself personal, and the personalized gift held a special value in the minds of both the receiver and the giver. And since the gift itself was personally created, it was a personalized gift in the true sense of the term. Of course, as times changed and the concept of mass production became more and more prominent, gifts too moved away from being personalized gifts to becoming generic gifts, mass produced by profit seeking organizations.
Don’t get me wrong. I am all for progress. In fact, I believe that mass production has made a number of items more affordable for the common man. If it were not for mass production, even everyday items would turn out to be exorbitantly priced. If we were to stick to the older methods of production, we could never hope to have enough of these everyday items to cater to the ever increasing population of our world. My gripe however, is based on the fact that mass production has all but killed off personalized gifts. Gifts are no longer unique; they are manufactured in the thousands or the millions and spread all over the globe. So, that rather exotic looking clock I purchased as a personalized gift for a friend say in Singapore, could very well have a look alike in the neighborhood Boston corner shop. And when I do try and hand it over as a personalized gift, imagine my horror when I see the very same article available in close proximity! The key thing about personalized gifts is that need to remain personal, and possibly, one-of-a-kind.
Which is why I have turned to another wonder of the modern world to source my personalized gifts. I have turned to what has come to be known as custom manufacturing. In custom manufacturing, you can mail your order for a personalized gift, and it will be delivered to you well in time. Sure, the cost is slightly more than in the regular gift shops, but then, you get what has become an increasingly difficult commodity to source – a personalized gift.
With custom manufacturing, my imagination is the only limitation to my personalized gift. I got my wife a lamp shade with her photograph on it, I got my grand father a walking cane with the autographs of his favorite team. I got my little girl a customized set of make up items with her name engraved on them. And all of these people, were without doubt, more than thrilled to get their personalized gifts.
