Penn State Store
When you live in the state of Pennsylvania you are familiar with two very prominent colleges in the area. The University of Pittsburgh and Penn State are two of the most popular colleges around because of the academic excellence as well as the athletic excellence each school has to offer. For this reason, the two colleges tend to compete quite a bit.
The competition goes as far as the fans as well. We have two family members who went to college at the same time. One loved the city and chose the University of Pittsburgh while the other chose Penn State. Both of these young men are on our shopping lists for the holidays and my husband and I try to give each school equal time.
This is not so easy. We live near Pittsburgh and finding Pitt (University of Pittsburgh) items is a breeze. However, finding a Penn State Store is not quite so easy. Yes, you can find the occasional sweatshirt or baseball cap boasting loyalty to the Nittany Lions, but you can’t find a Penn State store dedicated to the Nittany Lions fans exclusively.
My husband and I shopped for presents for our Nittany Lions fan in local department stores while our Pitt fan received special attention in specialized shops dedicated to the city’s beloved university. With no Penn State store to be found within the outskirts of Pittsburgh, this was the best we could do.
Our Penn State student accepted each gift with a pleasantly polite smile that usually accompanies the receipt of average or less than average presents. This couldn’t be helped. Our selection was so limited because there was no Penn State store around to provide good options. All the while, we were able to drown our Pitt student with really unique and innovative gifts.
