It seems that loneliness is reaching epidemic proportions among the hip, young, and wired, and that there is a whole generation out there who's only recourse to romance is through the use of a free online dating service. My favorite free online dating service is craigslist. Yeah, I know. It has a reputation for being the stomping ground of perverts and fetishists of every description, a reputation not wholly unwarranted, but with the number of people using craigslist as a free online dating service, it still isn't that hard to find one who meets your interests, no matter how vanilla, or how kinky your needs are. And, instead of relying on silly stock profiles like most free online dating services, you communicate through postings. These postings last a couple of weeks, can be changed or removed whenever you want, and do not require you giving personal information to anyone. This is not a free online dating service where you have to request membership, or give them your email. It is a simple public forum where anyone can look for anything that they want, giving you tremendous freedom.
Of course, the problem with using craigslist as a free online dating service is that there is no guarantee that the person who you are writing to is who they say they are. This is why with this, or any other free online dating service, it is really best to talk enough to make sure that the person is okay, and then to meet in a public place the first time, where both people can feel comfortable. The person your meeting is probably going to be okay, but it never pays to take chances.
