Flea Market Items
The term “flea market” doesn’t bring up many positive connotations. At best it usually makes people think of a dingy market where peddlers try to sell off pieces of useless junk and rob you of your money, while at worst it usually makes people think of, well, fleas. Though the flea markets of years past may have been tattered, dingy affairs, things have changed considerably. Today’s flea market items are now more often new than used, and lots of times they’re sold through reputable businesses, especially if the flea market is a weekly or monthly affair at a particular location.
Now, instead of picking up a few odd curiosities at a flea market, it’s possible to do almost all of your shopping there. Flea market items now range from used books to clothing to groceries to furniture. Not only has the variety of high-quality flea market items increased, but the clientele is decidedly more upscale than it’s been in the past. More and more people are realizing the bargains to be had at flea markets, and that the negative stereotypes usually associated with flea markets are largely undeserved. Since more people are shopping for flea market items, more established stores and businesses are breaking into the market. One of the biggest advantages of having a stall at a flea market is that the seller can have a standard day job during the week and then make a little extra money on the weekends by selling items at the flea market. In the past, these businesses were almost exclusively run out of the home, but times are changing. Now many businesses, like the private sellers, realized that there is money to be made over the weekend at the flea market. Though the home-based sellers are still there, many flea market items are coming from established businesses which run their stalls to make a little extra profit on the weekends.
Not only have the sellers changed, what they’re selling has changed as well. Flea market items no longer consist only of useless junk or knock-off items; if you do some looking it’s easy to find some great deals on quality, name-brand items. However, since it’s possible for flea market proprietors to be there one week and gone the next, it’s important to make sure you’re getting a quality product, since returns are usually pretty rare. It’s easy to find a deal though, especially if you can find a wholesale outlet for a reputable business.
