Faux Fur Coat
When a woman wants to wear a fur coat without the guilt of knowing that an animal sacrificed it, she can instead choose to wear a faux fur coat. There are many negative images that are associated with real fur coats mostly with the treatment of animals. Animals are many times mistreated when making real fur coats and it can diminish the population of these animals as well. A faux fur coat looks like the real thing but without having the negative connotations. It can look great and be very fashionable as well. Fur coats are making a comeback in the fashion industry but the negative connotations are not, so a faux fur coat is a great way to stay fashionable without carrying the bad stigma of real fur coats.
Even though it is not real, a faux fur coat must still be cared for in a way to make sure the coat lasts for a long time and does not fall apart. The main thing in caring for a faux fur coat is to not let the coat get wet. The water can do permanent damage to the synthetic fibers in the coat. It is best not to use it when it is raining or when the weather looks bad as to keep the coat in great condition.
There are several different types of synthetic materials that can be used to make a faux fur coat. It can range from a polyester and modacrylic mix to an acrylic and polyester mix. They come in several different colors and the one you choose is really just personal preference.
For general cleaning purposes as well as any accidents that may occur, it’s really best to take your faux fur coat to a professional for cleaning. There is a solvent that is particular to a faux fur coat that dry cleaners use. For this reason do not try to clean it yourself when a spill occurs as it can sometimes make it worse and makes it harder for the professional dry cleaner as well.
To keep the coat soft, shiny, and looking good use a brush that is especially for soft clothes. Go over the coat with the brush once a week. Make sure to brush in the direction off the faux fur as this will ensure that it maintains its new natural look.
One thing that can make the fabric break down is by wearing heavy shoulder bags or packs which put friction on the material. When the faux fur coat starts to break down, after time, there is no fixing it as the breakdown will generally happen in the collar and cuff area. When this happens it’s time for a replacement.
