Some businesses need to confirm that bills from other countries are genuine. Many of these kinds of detectors are able to spot counterfeit bills of the major currencies circulated around the world such as the U.S. Dollar, the Euro, the English Pound, and the Canadian Dollar.
For many investing in a device that can test bills is well worth it. A counterfeit money detector can save them a lot in the long run. Many now are portable and battery operated as opposed to the larger bulkier machines of times past. For people who deal mainly in cash it’s well worth considering.
The average person certainly would have little use for it unless they were an active collector of either old currency or currency from other places. For you and me I think we’re safe without it.
