Chair Designs

Who would have thought there is such complexity to chair designs? You turn around, you sit down and sometimes you put your arm on a rest. Within that basic framework, there are numerous chair designs that have resulted from a simple invention. There are couches, sofas, settees, loveseats, benches, ottomans and mounted seats, such as you would find in a movie theater.

The padding and the material used really dictate the foundation of every piece of furniture, including chairs. You occasionally hear of such a thing as customizable furniture colors, but with so many available aesthetic choices in furniture stores, you can usually find what you’re looking for with just one trip; or if you’re shopping online, just one click.

As far as material goes, wood, metal, plastic or solid gold and ebony can all be incorporated into chair designs. While most chairs are not that luxurious in texture anymore, compare a golden throne to a modern day electronic recliner with footrest and ask yourself which you would rather sit in. Anybody who’s ever sat in an electronic recliner knows it’s hard to go back to the rigid, upright chair designs once you’ve been spoiled by the best. And that’s not even counting electronic recliners with a massage feature.

Colorful beanbags for slumbering are one of the fun chair designs that are popular today. Padding on chairs can be made of leather, polymer and many other types of fabrics.

If you are more concerned about convenience than comfort there are chair designs for you too. Folding chairs, lightweight chairs and transformable chairs are examples of this. Then there are those unbearable “task chairs” the kind designed to make you concentrate at work or at school and provide little comfort if any.

Finally, there is the aesthetic side. Who needs comfort, affordability and electronic massages when you can buy chair designs that make a statement? In selected brick stores, but primarily online, you can buy unique and avant-garde chair designs that range from lounge chairs with loud and assaulting colors (the “Marilyn chair, the “Jazz chair”, the “Vegas Loveseat”) to totally unique in shape including the shape of a shoe, a ball, a giant hand or a musical note.

But art, comfort and convenience all cost. While you can buy a rocking chair for about $80.00, one of those artsy chairs will cost you closer to $500.00 And the electronic recliner? Upwards of $1000.00 if you can find a good bargain.

With so many to choose from, it just shows there is no limit to a designer’s imagination—even in such a basic concept as a good place to sit down.
