Cell Phone Number
I have just come to the realization that I do not know my own cell phone number. This is a very disturbing fact because I have had the same cell phone number for years. The other day, a friend of mine asked me for the number and I spouted a series of numbers as a knee jerk reaction to the request. Later that evening, my husband called me to tell me that my friend called his cell phone and he wanted to give me the message.
It did not occur to me that I had given my friend my husband’s cell phone number until it happened again. “Why does she keep calling you instead of me?” I asked. My husband said that she seemed to think that he was talking on my cell phone. Then I remembered spouting the numbers off by heart. I had given the wrong numbers. I was just programmed to associate my husband’s number when I thought of cell phone numbers.
Of course, I called my friend to correct my mistake, but I realized that I had absolutely no idea what my cell phone number is. I went through the numbers in my head, but I honestly could not think of the combination. As scary as this may seem, it does make perfect sense. My husband did not know my number either. He has my cell phone number programmed into his phone. He simply says my name and the phone starts ringing. He has not had to dial my number in over a year.
As for me, I never call myself so I never needed to know the number. I do use my phone often, but I have had the same cell phone number for about four or five years. I gave the number to my friends and family when I first got a cell phone and my associates from work had the number for nearly five years as well. For as often as I use the phone, you would think that I would have the number dedicated to memory. However, for as often as I give my cell phone number out, there is no wonder why I can’t remember it.
I called my friend at her home using my cell phone. I told her that I needed her to check her caller ID and let me know what my cell phone number is so I could write it down. She laughed and told me that I already have that information in my cell phone but I told her that she could save me a lot of time and aggravation by just giving me the number. Sometimes it is easier to do things the old fashioned way. I added my cell phone number to my address book. I think I may need it sometime in the future.
