Cavalier Recalls

The word lately has been in favor of one auto manufacturer, Toyota (taking six of the ten hottest car spots on the list), and in controversial angst over another, Ford (taking excessive slack from right-wing conservative Christians protesting their advertising in gay publications). Chevy seems to have escaped both the bane of boon of exposure of late, so maybe a light on and Cavalier recalls will fall on deaf ears. And despite how big a proponent I am of Chevies, I will nevertheless offer a look at the Chevy recalls…for those of us who are die-hard Chevy drivers but who are also smart shoppers who keep informed regardless.

1982 Cavalier Recalls

L4-112 1.8L – One recall was made in May of 1986 for the EGR Vacuum Signal Relocation.

1983 Cavalier Recalls

L4-121 2.0L VIN B 2-bbl- Five recalls were announced, including two in 1987 for the Driver's Side Floor Pan Reinforcement and the Brake Proportioner Valve Separation; one in April of 1983, for the Left Front Lower Control Arm Weld Breakage; and one in April of 88, for the Pulsair Check Valve Campaign Revision.

L4-121 2.0L VIN P TBI- Five recalls were also made, including those for the Pulsair Check Valve Assembly Corrosion (in November of 87); the Driver's Side Floor Pan Reinforcement (also in 87); the Brake Proportioner Valve Separation (in October of 83); the Left Front Lower Control Arm Weld Breakage (83 also); and the Pulsair Check Valve Campaign Revision (in April of 88).

1984 Cavalier Recalls

L4-121 2.0L VIN B 2-bbl-Two recalls included those for the Driver's Side Floor Pan Reinforcement and the Seat Back Lock Inspection/Replacement, in, respectively, June, 1987 and February, 1984

L4-121 2.0L VIN P TBI-The same recalls were made for this series as were made for the L4-121 2.0L VIN B 2-bbl, listed above.

1996 Cavalier Recalls

L4-2.2L VIN 4-In January of 2003, October of 2002, August of 1998, and January of 1997, four Cavalier recalls included those for the Steering Gear Lower Pinion Bearing Separation, the Ignition Switch Fire Hazard, Inadvertent Air Bag Deployment, and because Hazard Lamps May Not Function Properly. In addition, two recalls were made in June of 1996 for the Fuel Injector Vapor Leak and the repeated Fuel Injector Vapor Leak, with Encapsulant Stress; one recall brought back the Cavalier with Corrosion/Moisture Entering the PCM in May, 2000, and another because the MIL ON, Engine Runs Rough, in April, 2000.

L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI – Between May of 2000 and January of 2003, similar recalls were made on this model series for problems ranging from a Steering Gear Lower Pinion Bearing Separation to an Ignition Switch Fire Hazard to an Inadvertent Air Bag Deployment issue to Corrosion/Moisture Entering the PCM.

L4-2.2L VIN 4-The same four problems found in the L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI forced Cavalier recalls for the L4-2.2L VIN 4.

1998 Cavalier Recalls

L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI- In January, 2003, a recall was announced because of the Steering Gear Lower Pinion Bearing Separation problem; in February 2004, an Ignition Circuit Defect required a second recall; both after a recall in May of 2000 was required to fix the problem of Corrosion/Moisture Entering the PCM in this model series.

L4-2.2L VIN 4-Three recalls were announced to fix an Ignition Circuit Defect; a Steering Gear Lower Pinion Bearing Separation; and to alleviate the problem of Corrosion/Moisture Entering the PCM—between 2000 and 2004.

1999 Cavalier Recalls

L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI-Two recalls were announced, in February of 2004 and May of 2000 for an Ignition Circuit Defect and for Corrosion/Moisture Entering the PCM

L4-2.2L VIN 4-The same Cavalier recalls were made on this series as were made on the 1999 L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI model.

2000 Cavalier Recalls

L4-2.2L VIN 4- The same Ignition Circuit Defect recall was done for this model/series as was done for the L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI, L4-2.2L VIN 4, and L4-144 2.4L DOHC VIN T SFI series

2002 Cavalier Recalls

L4-144 2.4L-One recall was announced, in September, 2004, for an Emissions Label Replacement.

L4-2.2L VIN 4-The same Emissions Label Replacement recall was done for this series as for the L4-144 2.4L series.

L4-2.2L VIN F- The same Emissions Label Replacement recall was done for this series as for the L4-144 2.4L and the L4-2.2L VIN 4 series.

2003 Cavalier Recalls

L4-2.2L VIN F- After one recall was announced in September of 2004 for the Emissions Label Replacement, one more was made in January of 2005 for the following problem: Rear Signal/Brake Lamps Inoperative

2004 Cavalier Recalls

L4-2.2L VIN F-In August of 2004, this series/model was recalled for a Passenger Rear Seat Belt Anchor Non-Compliance; and was recalled earlier, in September, 2003, for a Spark Plug Misfire Condition.

As any Chevy enthusiast will continue to tell you, however, such minor problems—or glitches—as having to replace a label or even having to adjust lights or replace sparkplugs is nothing…compared to the joy of owning a Chevy!
