Cakes are a crucial traditional element to many special occasions. The pastries are the center of nearly every birthday gathering. Weddings would not be the same without the confection and holidays seem to revolve around them. Many of us are very interesting in honing our artistic abilities and directing them toward cake designs that will please family and friends and ones that will leave a lasting impression.
Coming up with cake designs is not a difficult task in itself if you have a theme in mind. There are cake pans available that provide the shape of a famous character or the shape of other objects that fit into your theme. What is nice about the pre formed pans is your cake designs are created naturally out of the cooking process. Little else needs to be done other than icing the pastry after it is finished baking.
When it comes to icing the cake, just plain icing in different colors might do the trick, especially if your cake designs are pre determined by the baking pan. However, you might want to add some sparkle and detail that make the finished product truly an original. There is a number of interesting choices for the finishing details in you cake designs that can make your creation one of a kind.
Spray color mist is a relatively new decorating supply for cake designs. The edible color mist comes in an aerosol can. Simply spray the product right on to the area you want to embellish. Some creative individuals like to use stencils to create a particular pattern. Just place the stencils right on the iced cake and spray.
Luster dusts are edible too and can be put on any kind of firm frosting. The cake designs are decided then the baker brushes the dust right on to the stiff frosting leaving beautiful glittering residue. Stencils can be used with the luster dusts, too but this should be reserved for those with steady hands. If you’re a novice, stick to the spray or you may wind up with a few chunks missing here and there.
Edible Color Markers work just like regular markers and can be used to draw cake designs right on the icing or on the cake itself. I like to let the kids create their own designs on cupcakes. This is a great party activity that keeps the kids happy and occupied. It also gives them an opportunity to be part of the cake designs. The finished cupcakes can be arranged on a serving dish and topped with candles.
