Bakers Rack
Settling into your first apartment is an exciting time that you will remember for years to come. I loved everything about my first little apartment. It was a tiny, one bedroom half of a duplex that used to be an old farmhouse. I had very little furniture so when I decided to purchase a bakers rack, many of my friends thought that I had lost my mind.
What possessed me to purchase the rustic piece of furniture is beyond me, but I had to have it. The bakers rack was displayed in a local Wal-Mart department store. It caught my eye. I was drawn to it and the next thing I knew, I was trying to assemble the bakers rack in my apartment.
It was actually easy to put together. The tough part was trying to find the right place for it. To my dismay, the bakers rack did not fit in my tiny kitchen. I could squeeze it into the kitchen, but the ceiling was too low for the rack to stand up. I was amazed at how short the ceiling was and I was very disappointed that I couldn’t use my new favorite piece of furniture.
I decided to try the bakers rack in my living room. The ceiling stood a few inches taller in this area of the house and I realized that my kitchen/dinette area used to be a porch at one time. I only wished that I would have measured the area before making the purchase. I just didn’t think that buying a piece of furniture would require so much thought.
My living room was the only real option I had. It made no sense to put such an item in a bedroom. What purpose would it serve? There was literally no other place for the bakers rack and I wasn’t about to return it to the store. After I arranged my living room furniture, which consisted of a loveseat and a bakers rack, I was actually happy that I made the odd purchase.
The small living room seemed a little larger with the small couch and delicate rack. I used the bakers rack as an entertainment stand. The beauty of the piece balanced the appliances and it was sturdy enough to hold my television and my stereo. An actual entertainment center would have cost a lot more than the kitchen furniture and it would have dominated the small room.
Sometimes a rash purchase turns out for the best after all is said and done. When I moved, I took the bakers rack with me and it is still with me today. I still love the piece as if it were brand new. It reminds me of my first apartment. The only difference is that it fits perfectly in my kitchen now.
Another nice feature that the bakers rack offered was a space for wine bottles.
