Anti Spam
There are many anti spam software products that you can use to deter spammers from attacking your personal computer. Spam is almost everywhere and it can be extremely annoying. Many people are not bothered too much by spam because they simply delete it and forget it. I’m not one of those people. I try to figure out exactly where they spam originated and how the source of the spam got my information.
This kind of worry is useless and does nothing but take up a lot of time. The best thing for me to do is to install anti spam features into my email and on my computer. However, blogging is another story. I am now addicted to posting in my little blog. I am also addicted to some other blogs as well. We have created a little community of bloggers who navigate to one another’s site and make comments. Most of the comments are from real people but some are not.
I was very excited to get my first comment on my blog. I was happy that I had some traffic and I had an actual reader who took enough interest in what I had to say to take the time to comment. I entered the link to the comment post and I found spam. Yes, the first comment on my precious blog was spam! I didn’t delete it, as I do in my email, but it was a big let down. I was pleased that a reader made a comment about the spam comment in my blog.
The human commenter suggested that I activate the anti spam feature offered to bloggers through Blogspot. I was relieved to know that I could stop unwanted spam comments through their anti spam feature and I quickly activated it. Actually, I didn’t quickly activate it. I had to figure out how on earth to do it first. Once it was in place I sighed, feeling both relieved and victorious. I continued blogging as usual.
I began to notice that the anti spam feature was a bit of a pain in the neck for some visitors. By “some visitors” I mean “me.” I should wear glasses but I can’t see well enough to find them. The anti spam feature requires the commenter to decipher distorted letters and type them into a special space under the comment in order to transmit it. I found myself entering letters a few times before finding one I could translate. Sometimes I just skipped commenting all together.
I figured that some of my readers may have the same issues. Maybe someone is hard of seeing. Maybe she’s just lazy. In any case, I thought that it was more important to get comments even if I had to deal with spam. I deactivated the anti spam feature and I did notice more comments right away. I did not notice spam comments. That bothers me more than anything else. Now I’m trying to figure out why my blog is not good enough to get inundated with spam. One or two spam comments would put me at ease.
