Abortion Information
Abortion is not a pleasant subject for casual discussion. Pro-life and pro-choice supporters both feel strongly about their convictions, and each side holds certain beliefs regarding abortion and the unborn fetus. Abortion information is widely available from health care providers in a variety of settings, not to mention the great amount that is accessible on the internet. Various groups both pro and against tailor their abortion information to best present their viewpoint. Different arguments have been on the table since the controversial abortion debate began, and especially regarding the precedent setting case Roe v. Wade, which made abortion legal. Both sides use this case as a cornerstone of their arguments. Many groups site religious and ethical concerns about the procedure and the developing fetus, and they have the right to express these concerns, but they do not have the right to unfairly influence any woman’s right to choice.
Abortion information made available by pro-choice groups, such as Planned Parenthood, discusses abortion procedures in detail, when each can be performed, the risks, and outcomes of each. Counseling is required before the decision is made forward to either have the abortion or not. Trained professionals are available to provide women with pertinent abortion information and lead them to an informed decision. A pregnancy is a life event and the decision whether to keep the pregnancy or not, should not be taken lightly and all long term ramifications must be considered. Abortion information is available from many different sources, to all women no matter the size of the community. Referrals can be made to physicians and various public/private organizations that can help address any concerns and offer support. Access to accurate abortion information is every woman’s right, and it should not be kept from anyone requesting it, because of the views of someone who may be opposed to it.
There will always be the debate between pro-choice and pro-life, as we are all entitled to our opinions. The decision to have an abortion or not is a deeply personal one, and should ultimately be made by the woman. She should not be criticized, intimidated, or otherwise influenced to do it or not by either side, but should simply be given abortion information and allowed to make her own informed choice. Abortion information is essential, and a woman should not feel that there is no choice. Health care providers are in a position to present accurate abortion information and assist women to make the choice that is right for them. To choose between continuing with the pregnancy or having an abortion would be a difficult one for any woman to make if the situation called for it. This is the greatest argument for making abortion information easily accessible to all women, as it should be.
